OGOW is an electronic medical records (EMR) and practical management system designed specifically for hospitals in Somalia. Our primary goal is improving the delivery of healthcare through collaboration, innovation and efficiency. The EMR application is a first of its kind system that provides innumerable benefits to health-care practitioners with essential tools to improve: quality, continuity, assessment, and evidence of care through improved management.

Having real time access to historical patient records, allows doctors to quickly identify past conditions and current treatments at the individual level. It also allows them to see trends, in particular population centers, to be better prepared for possible epidemics or outbreaks.

OGOW EMR is designed to improve the health outcomes of women and girls in Somalia. Practitioners will be able to use the EMR to improve Tdap Vaccination Rates by empowering hospitals to track immunization rates and reach patients who need specific vaccines. This can be done by generating patient lists, reminder for order sets and by running query based reports. The portal also includes Perinatal/ postnatal assessment available both in Somali and English.

Your generosity is helping to set a new standard in health care delivery in Somalia. Thank you!
Please consider donating to our campaign to help us reach our goal of expanding this health records system across Somalia’s hospital and clinic system.

OGOW will provide the requisite collaboration, strength of approach, and expertise to help the Hospital create medical patient files and management of the files. We’ll use our understanding of the Hospital’s requirements, coupled with our team’s skills and experience, to successfully assist them.

Our progress so far:

Fundraising Goal Progress
PERCENTAGE OF GOAL REACHED 45.9%

Specifically, we will: Design, Develop, Test and Deploy an electronic medical system, Organize an Internship Program, Provide Training and relevant educational material, Initiate Community Preparation, Share Knowledge and experience with the Technology, Provide our tailored approach, Offer Industry depth and leadership

We thank all applicants for considering OGOW EMR as their program of choice for learning and developing new skills this summer. We received an overwhelming response to our program. We are no longer taking applications, but thank you for your interest. We hope to expand the internship program in the future.

Stay tuned for our announcement late – July of 2019.

A provider of electronic medical record (EMR) solutions in Somalia, OGOW operates with a vision to implement electronic solutions that will monitor trends and find disparities in both rural-urban settings across Somalia.

Throughout the majority of hospitals in Somalia, medical record keeping is still almost non-existent. The medical practitioners throughout the country are desperately in need of efficient systems to monitor diagnoses, treatments, and trends. This is exactly what OGOW is looking to accomplish. OGOW EMR is designed to make use of digital solutions to improve the quality of health and wellbeing of all.

OpenIDEO is a global open innovation platform that builds collaborative communities to address pressing social and environmental issues. Through their online Challenges, offline Chapters and targeted programs, they enable innovators anywhere to apply design thinking towards generating social impact. The Immunization Innovation Challenge by OpenIDEO was conducted in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to uncover ways to empower caregivers to fully utilize immunization services in their communities.

In the challenge, OGOW proposes to improve the delivery of immunizations in Somalia by empowering and equipping practitioners and caregivers with digital solutions that are easy-to-use, customizable and available in the Somali language. After a thorough review of 100+ of entries, this idea was shortlisted as one of the top five.

As one of the top ideas, OGOW will not only receive feedback from expert stakeholders in the vaccine innovation space, but also receive $10,000 in funding to support their innovation. They will also have an opportunity to meet and present their winning idea to the Gates Foundation Vaccine Innovation team.

“We’re thrilled about winning the challenge and the opportunity to work with the Gates Foundation to address the existing issues related to the delivery of immunization in Somalia,” said Khalid Hashi, the founder of OGOW. “I take this opportunity to thank everyone for their overwhelming support towards our program and improving health in Somalia.
